Who is Georges St-Pierre?
Georges St-Pierre developed an interest in martial arts since he was seven years old. However, it was out of necessity to put bullies at bay.
He trained in Kyokushin Karate and then took up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling when he was a teenager.
Georges made his debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) during UFC 46 in January of 2001.
During his inaugural fight, he hit the ground running and dominated his opponent, Karo Parisyan. He defeated Karo via a unanimous decision.
Georges won the UFC Welterweight Championship in October 2006 during UFC 65. St-Pierre held on to the title until April 2007. He lost the title at UFC 69 to Matt Serra.
Fortunately, he regained the title in April 2008 at UFC 83. Georges defended his title successfully 9 times from 2008 to 2013. He would then retire from the sport in December of 2013.
Georges returned from retirement four years later to become the new Middleweight Champion after beating Michael Bisping.
On February 21st, 2019, St-Pierre announced that he would retire from professional mixed martial arts. He became a UFC Wall of Famer on May 9th, 2020.
